| Governor launches fund collection drive | | | JAMMU, DEC 7 Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S K Sinha today made a fervent appeal to the people and philanthropic organizations to liberally donate towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, saying that the performance of valiant forces during wars and in peace in Jammu and Kashmir bears testimony to their heroism, devotion and dedication to the duties assigned to them. Contributing towards the Fund at a function held at Raj Bhavan this morning, the Governor said that during their service to the nation, many have been martyred, disabled and become infirm. ‘Rehabilitation and resettlement of these personnel and their families is our sacred obligation’, he added. The Governor said that this Day is an occasion to express ‘our gratitude to these gallant heroes and express our solidarity with them and their families’, he added. The General said that the army has been playing a crucial role in guarding the borders against external aggression, fighting low intensity conflict initiated by the adversary, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and assisting the civil population during natural calamities. Minister for Works, Mr Gulchain Singh Charak, who was also present on the occasion, also contributed towards the fund. The Governor presented shields to Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Jammu Col (Retd) Karan Singh and District Administration, Udhampur for maintaining the top two slots in the collection drive consecutively for the fifth year. He also released a calendar and broacher of activities on the occasion. Financial Commissioner, Home, Mr B R Kundal, Principal Secretary to Governor, Dr Arun Kumar, Director, Rajya Sainik Board, Brig (Retd) K S Kotwal and senior officers were among those present on the occasion. |
