130 helicopter unit rescues injured civilians | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, October 3: 130 Helicopter Unit ‘CONDORS’ of Air Force Station, Jammu was called upon for casualty evacuation of the civilians injured in a road accident. A matador carrying 18 passengers from Ramban to Banihal met with an unfortunate accident on its way near Feri, 08 Kms short of Chandrakot in Doda district. The ill fated bus rolled down the road into a gorge near Feri killing six passengers and injuring 12 others. Out of these 12 passengers seven got critically injured and without timely casualty evacuation may have succumbed to their injuries. The Army and the local medical authorities brought the injured passengers to the nearest helipad at Chandrakot and were evacuated by helicopter for rendering immediate surgical care for the victims to prevent loss of life. Air Force Helicopter of 130 Helicopter Unit was called upon to render casualty evacuation of these passengers at 1000 hrs. Within 30 minutes notice, the helicopter from Jammu got airborne to evacuate the passengers from the Chandrakot helipad near accident site. In spite of hilly terrain and lot of obstructions, the helicopter Captained by Wing Commander C Y Mahajan, Co-pilot Squadron Leader Indumeet Singh, Flight Engineer WO Y C Shekhar and Flight Gunner Sgt M K Dhudasia landed successfully. Despite the fact that the helipad site is surrounded by lots of High Tension cables and other obstructions in hilly terrain, the crew demonstrated highest standards of professionalism and were able to retrieve seven critically injured passengers of the ill fated vehicle. Air Force Station Jammu provided all out support to the injured passengers after arrival at Jammu.
