6 killed, 12 injured in road mishap near Ramban

JAMMU, Oct 3:At least six mini bus passengers were killed and twelve others received critical injuries when their transport bus skidded off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Ramban today.
According to police sources,” A matador bearing Registration number JK 14A-18 carrying about 18 passengers was on its way from Ramban to Banihal got hit by a truck bearing registration number JK 13A- 2220 at Seri 2 kms away from Ramban. The truck was also moving on the same direction hit the mini bus due to which the ill fated vehicle fell into a deep gorge.”
Police spokesman informed that 7 passengers, mostly local villagers, were killed on the spot while out of 12 injured seven seriously injured were airlifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu.
Soon after receiving the information about the accident, Dy SP Hqrs. Ramban Randhir Singh, SHO police station Ramban Inspector Verinder Singh and SHO police station Chanderkote Inspector Sukhdev Singh under the supervision of SP Ramban Anil Magotra alongwith heavy contingent of Police personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operations.
During rescue operations, the Ramban Police evacuated the dead passengers and shifted all the injured passengers to District Hospital Ramban wherefrom seven seriously injured were airlifted to GMC Jammu for specialized treatment.
Those who killed in the accident include Abdul Latief (Lecturer) son of Mohd Hussain Malik of Parnote, Mehfooz son of Rehman of Neel Suranga, presently at Masjid Market Ramban, Patil Singh son of Keshu Ram of Palli Ramban, Mohd Ashraf son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Ukhral, Aehmudullah Shah son of Subhan Shah of Takia Tethar Banihal and Abdul Latief son of Alif Din Lone of Ahama Dardhei.
The passengers who sustained minor to major injuries inlcude Basharat Hussain son of Shabir Ahmed of Chanderkote (airlifted to GMC Jammu)
Mohd Hafiz son of Ghulam Hassan Sohail of Halla (airlifted to GMC Jammu)
Shiv Charan son of Karam Chand of Maitra (airlifted to GMC Jammu)
Mukhtiyar Ahmed son of Musa of Peera (airlifted to GMC Jammu)
Mubarak Ali son of Aehmudullah Sheikh of Dalwah Kundi (airlifted to GMC Jammu)
Ghulam Mohd son of Abdul Majid of Bhatta (airlifted to GMC Jammu), Naseeb Singh son of Dooni Chand Thakur of Ahama Dhanmasta (airlifted to GMC Jammu), Murad Ali son of Musa of Peera, Dharoo Bano daughter of Musa of Peera, Nassema Begum wife of Musa of Peera, Dr Farooq Ahmed of Mohd Rafiq of Maitra
Shabir Ahmed Bali son of Abdul Rehman Bali of Govindpura
Later on, the truck was detained at Ramsoo and its driver identified as Abdul Rashid Bhat son of Ab Gafoor Bhat of Persu Pulwama got arrested.
