| Hurriyat leaders' security won't be withdrawn | | J&K separatists oppose Army deployment: Jaiswal | | B L KAK NEW DELHI, DEC 7 The Union government has officially admitted that the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir continue to be arrayed against the presence of the Indian Army in the State, particularly the restive Valley. In the Rajya Sabha, Kalraj Mishra, raised a pointed query: How many separatis organisations in Jammu and Kashmir at present are opposing the deployment of the Army in Kashmir? Mishra also wanted to know, during the question hour, the number of separatists groups in support of Kashmir's "liberation" from India. In his reply, Sriprakash Jaiswal, Minister of State for Home Affairs, said: "All separatist groups in the State are opposed to the deployment of the Army in the State and some are demanding secession of Kashmir from India". On the security cover to separatist leaders of Kashmir, Jaiswal informed the House that the Jammu and Kashmir government has provided security to Maulvi Mohammed Umar Farooq, Maulvi Abbas Ansari, Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Lone, Saleem Geelani--all leaders of the All Party Hurriyat Conference (A) and Sajjad Ghani Lone of Peoples Conference. Kalraj Mishra also wanted to know the year-wise figures of the money spent on their security. All that Sriprakash Jaiswal said was: "The expenditure on this account is incurred by the State government of Jammu and Kashmir". Responding to another query, Jaiswal made it plain that security of these Kashmiri leaders "is provided by the State government and it is for the State government to review it". Jaiswal ruled out withdrawing of security cover to these leaders in the given situation. In the Lok Sabha, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra and four other MPs also raised the question of security cover to leaders of separatist groups in J&K. In his reply, Sriprakash Jaiswal made a significant revelation: "All the separatist groups, including theleaders of separatist groups who have been provided security cover by the State police, are opposing the deployment of Indian Army in Kashmir". Jaiswal's message was loud and clear: Those separatist leaders who have had more than one meeting with the Centre to take forward the peace process in Kashmir have not abandoned their stand against the deployment of Indian Army in the Valley. These separatist leaders include the "Group of Five" (G-5)--Maulvi Umar Farooq, Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat, Maulvi Abbas Ansari, Bilal Lone and Saleem Geelani. Without saying "all is fair in love and war", Sriprakash Jaiswal also conveyed the government's message in support of the continuance of security cover to these Separatist leaders. |
