Who is funding anti-India seminars?
CDR Gulmarg Meet -- II
10/4/2011 12:21:08 AM
Neha
jammu, Oct 3: After "threadbare" discussion, the participants, roughly 18 in number, including 3-odd so-called Hindu women and peace activists, adopted a resolution. It was adopted unanimously. Why not? After all, all those who participated in the meet were those who subscribed to the view that the Indian presence in Jammu and Kashmir is illegal and unwarranted, that the extension of central laws to the state (read the influential and prosperous Kashmiri Sunnis) has "eroded the Kashmir's distinct identity" and that New Delhi must rectify its mistakes by conceding what the people of Kashmir want (read a section of Kashmiri society that has been ruling the state and exploiting and destroying the people of Jammu and Ladakh since 1947). The resolution, according to the organisers of the event, would be submitted to the prime ministers of India and Pakistan for consideration and necessary action.
The organisers made the adopted resolution public on September 30 in a press conference at Srinagar. It was addressed by the executive director of Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) and others. The resolution, among other things, demanded (1) "immediate demilitarisation" of civilian areas and (2) repeal of what the resolution called "draconian Acts (read Armed Forces Special Powers Act, the Public Safety Act and the Disturbed Areas Act). "We demand from our respective governments," read the "consensus" statement adopted at the end of the meet, "the immediate phased de-militarisation in all civilian areas and repeal of draconian Acts like AFSPA and PSA."
Other demands, the "consensus statement" mentioned included "an end to human rights abuses and violations of all kinds - arbitrary arrests and detentions, enforced disappearances, sexual violence, crackdowns, searches, displacement of all kinds, rehabilitation of displaced communities without segregation - by all sides; the simplification of procedures in trade, communication and travel across the LoC and opening of other trade and travel routes, like Kargil-Skardu, Chamb-Bhimbar, and Leh-Khaplu; cease-fire be respected with immediate halt to violations and land mine issues be addressed; immediate release and return of stray crossers as well as disbanding of SPOs and review of policy towards VDCs". The "consensus" statement or resolution, in addition, demanded resolution of the Kashmir issue. The demands as put forth by Barve and others at press briefing should leave none in any doubt that they have contempt for Indian institution and the anti-terror laws and that they want unbridled freedom for the Kashmiri separatists so that they could do what they want to do against India.
One of the participants from Gilgit-Baltistan Amina Bibi, who also happens to be a member of the sham and Islamabad-controlled Gilgit-Baltistan assembly, reportedly told reporters that "they would leave (Kashmir) with heavy heart after seeing the plight of the people of Kashmir" and added: "We need to see Kashmir issue with a human heart". None countered her.
That none in the press conference or at the meet countered her and that what she said was published prominently in a section of print media unedited clearly established that all the participants, including Amitabh Mattoo's mother Neerja Mattoo and two other participants from Jammu, including the one holding an important position in the Jammu University, endorsed the outrageous and anti-India view of Amina Bibi. This should further establish that Barve had invited only those who would accuse India of perpetrating barbarities on the Kashmiri Muslims.
What does all this suggest? It suggests that anti-India elements have ganged up to muddy waters in the state and promote the cause of those in Pakistan and the Indian Jammu and Kashmir who have been seeking a dispensation outside the Indian constitutional framework. They are doing what they are supposed to do. They do not represent India. Nor do they represent the oppressed and suppressed Jammu and Ladakh. They represent what they told media persons. What is intriguing is the support Barve is getting from a person whose family and thousands and thousands of similar other families were hounded out of Mirpur and other areas in 1947-1948 because they were non-Muslim and because they did not subscribe to the two-nation theory.
The question is: who is funding the NGOs like the CDR? It is the Government of India? Or, is it the Government of Pakistan and its ISI? Or, is it Saudi Arabia and similar other countries? Who is funding the CDR which spends lavishly and again and again and again? The CDR cannot afford to spend such a huge amount. The Home Ministry has recently identified over 100 NGOs which are involved in anti-national activities. The Home Ministry would do well to take cognizance of what the CDR has been doing since years and investigate the credentials of Barve and those whom she invariably invites to take part in her essentially anti-national meets. It must be put under a scanner. The Foreign Ministry also ensures that persons like Amina Bibi don't get visa who have the temerity to abuse India on the Indian soil itself. (Concluded)
