Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 3: Amid the ruckus and noisy scenes witnessed in Assembly, the political parties remained in their 'pre defined and pre determined roles' over alleged custodial death of NC worker ,with clashes witnessed mainly between two traditional rivals National Conference and PDP. While the ruling alliance partner Congress did its 'bit' with some MLAs resorting to occasional shoutings , in a bid to show some solidarity, it was the complete silence of BJP, the second largest opposition that became conspicuous in the House.
Even though the BJP stands divided in two factions, almost all the members chose to remain silent and observe the pandemonium and unprecedented uproar as mere spectators. The two members from main BJP lot of four MLAs were seen back today after attending national executive meeting but at no point of time did any one among this lot utter a word nor from the group of 7 led by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta say anything over this fresh controversy that has led the two regional parties into virtual wrestling battleground.
BJP leadership which had avowed to take on the coalition government on a number of listed issues ironically remained silent on an issue which they look up as NC's 'internal' matter , despite the fact that more than NC worker's tag attached with the whole incident, there are many critical and serious aspects related with the issue. But the entire lot of 11 legislators remained non commentative and no word, worth any customary statement on this issue has yet come even from the main leadership of state unit. Interestingly, BJP makes a huge noise and clamour on issues which otherwise do not deserve such attention or strongly worded statements but one wonders why they hesitate to give any views or what they feel about the whole issue that has shook the state politics badly, with government , particularly NC uncomfortable and unnerved for obvious reasons.
Is BJP silent because it doesn't directly concern their rival Congress nor would it hit the party if they utter anything or is it because what is being seen and felt by the political observers that both factions do not want to hit or annoy ruling NC which is feeling heat and pain over the issue……?
As for the brief autumn session, one more day in the schedule of Assembly passed without any business as the House got adjourned after ruckus erupted over the issue of custodial deathy. The main business apart from routines sessions was to be devoted to private members bills today with around 35 bills that were to be taken up.
