SHSS to launch campaign against burning of Ravana effigies
10/4/2011 8:53:17 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 4:Sanatan Hindu Sudhar Sama (SHSS)j has resolved to launch a campaign for shedding the centuries old tradition of setting Ravana ablaze, every year on Dusshera. In a joint statement issued here today members of the Samaj, Manghal Verma, ML Sharma, Madan Lal Puri, Inderjeet Khajuria, Pawan Gupta, Devraj Sharma and BD Sharma have appealed to the Hindu Samaj to burn instead the evils, symbolized in ten faces of Ravan, condemned for centuries as a demon.
They observed that Ravana was a highly learnt and scholarly person, who had knowledge of four Vedas and worshipped Hindu gods and goddesses. He committed only one sin in kidnapping Sita Mata. But he never plundered her honour. Against this many modern day Ravanas i.e. evil persons are committing rapes of innocent and poor women. They are also indulging in other heinous crimes like corruption, black marketing and even compromising the national security. It is these evils which need to be set ablaze every year instead of burning the effigies of Ravana and others from his family. In the modern times we should fight against our mental Ravana and conquer the evils with virtues.
The members observed that there is dire need to reform the society and nip the evils, instead of following the ritual of burning the effigies of Ravan and others. They will launch a concerted drive for enlightening the people about the need to defeat the modern Ravanas and evil spirits and feelings.
