| Lecture on “Islam and Challenges of Modern Age” held | | |
JAMMU | DEC 7 Jammu Muslim Education Society organized a one day lecture on “Islam and Challenges of Modern Age”. The lecture was delivered by renowned scholar, journalist and engineer Asgar Ali. Veteran journalist Bal Raj Puri presided over the function. While introducing Asgar Alito the gathering, Puri termed him as protagonist and intellectual who believes in the development of all the communities with any discrimination. Asgar Ali in his speech stressed upon dynamic thought process and said that there has always been a room in Islam to adapt it in accordance with the changing time. Referring towards different religions he said that all the religions for the sake of separate identification, embrace those rituals which distinguish them from the other rather than accepting those which unite them together. But the basic lesson behind all the religions is one and the differences exist only because of different perspectives, he said and stressed upon non theological thought process. He further said that since the inception of nineteenth century Muslims from different parts of the world started embracing and enriching the scientific development in European culture. He added that Muslim thought process has also been influenced by the Roman, Persian and Hindustani system of thought. Pointing towards the key elements of the modern times, he said that Islam has always stood for the Individual Rights, Gender Equality etc. and so far as women empowerment is concerned, Duty is for males and Right is for the females in any literature of Islam. He added that Islamic laws should be accepted in letter and spirit and should not be moved by the personal interests.
