GDC Udhampur organizes awareness program on ‘territorial army’

JAMMU, October 4: Internal Quality assurance Cell of Government Degree College Udhampur organised an awareness cum counseling program on Territorial Army in collaboration with 151 Infantry Battalion TA JAT.
Lt. Col. Anil Dogra , Officiating Commander 151 Batallion TA JAT was the chief guest and the Key Resource person on this occasion whereas Dr. Ravinder Tickoo, Head Department of Electronics and Officiating Principal of the college presided over.
In his address Lt. Col. Dogra gave a detailed power point presentation tracing the origin and history of Territorial Army, how it grew from a voluntary army of Europeans and Anglo-Indians in 1857 to the Indian Defence Force which was further split into Auxilliary Force and Indian Territorial Force through the Indian Territorial Army Force Bill in 1920.
He also outlined various fields of TA activities like The Infantary Batallions, the Ecological task Forces, the Oil Sector Units, the General Hospitals and Railway Engineer units.
“The Territorial army is a citizen’s army and inherits all the magnificent traditions. It gives all the civilians a chance to be a part of this tradition and serve their nation in the mountains, plains, deserts, jungles and coastlines of India,” he added.
Principal of the college Dr. Nutan K. Resutra conveyed his best wishes to the organizers and said that such interactions go a long way to spread awareness among the youth about issues of contemporary importance.
Earlier, the program started with a floral welcome to the chief guest followed by the welcome address by Professor Sudhir Singh, Convenor Internal Quality assurance Cell. Professor Suresh K. Dogra proposed the formal vote of thanks. Major Abhijeet Gupta from TA , Professor Ruth k. Messih, HOD English, Professor Kamal Kishore, Professor G. R Verma and many faculty members along with many UG/PGstudents attended the program.
