Band Pather continues to enthrall audiences in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 4: The traditional Bhand Pather of Kashmir was infused with new creative energy when the eminent playwright and director Moti Lal Kemmu equipped the young writers and directors of Bhand tradition with new methodologies of play production and script writing, here today.


A ten day residential workshop is presently going on in full swing with brain storming sessions being conducted by the top experts of theatre.


The workshop is organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi and Natrang Jammu.


Earlier in the day, celebrated theatre and film personality Amin Bhatt gave tips on the new directorial approaches and the possibilities of incorporating more dramatic elements in the productions of Bhand Pather.


This is the first occasion when the new generations of Bhand performers are being exposed to the latest developed techniques of scripting, production and performances.


This unique initiative has been taken by the internationally acclaimed cultural personality, Balwant Thakur who on a mission to preserve and revive the cultural wealth of the state through his most trusted cultural institution Natrang.


The fact remains that traditional performing art heritage has suffered a lot and most of the rarest traditions have been vanished due to the continued neglect of the patrons of arts. This well thought and professionally designed programme is ought to infuse a new ease of life in the traditional performing arts of Kashmir.


Twenty young directors and writers who are being trained in this workshop include, Bilal Ahmed Bhagat (Kashmir Bhagat Theatre), Shah-e-Jahan-Ahmed Bhagat (National Bhand Theatre), Manzoor Ahmed Bhat (Dilkash Folk Theatre), Ghulam Nabi (Luk Pather Centre), Munir Ahmed (Baba Reshi Folk Theatre), Bilal Ahmed Mir (Gulisthan Bhagat Theatre), Aijaz Ahmed Bhat (Gulmarg Luk Theatre), Fayaz Ahmed Bhat (Kashmir Bhand Theatre), Muzzafar Ahmed Bhat (Sheesh Mahal Theatre), Mushtaq Ahmed Bagat (Monishah Folk Theatre),Tahir Ahmed (Alamdar Bhagat Theatre), Ghulam Hassan Betaab (Bomai Bhand Theatre), Mohd. Sultan Bhat (Arnimaal Folk Theatre), Feroz Ahmed Bhat (Manasbal Folk Theatre), Fayaz Ahmed Rather (Valley Folk Theatre), Ghulam Mohd. Bhat (Sultan Bhagat Theatre), Ghulam Mohd. Bhat (Kaatreshi Folk Theatre), Abdul Rashid (Bomai Luk Theatre), Fayaz Ahmed Bhat (Wullar Theatre), Jameel Ahmed Bhat (Alamdar Lukpather Centre).


The workshop is being coordinated by Nissar Nasem and assisted by Manzoor-Ul_Haq, Mohd. Yaseen and Hoshair Singh.
