IInd Farmers’ Direct Market inaugurated in Jammu city

JAMMU, OCTOBER 04- Former Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Jammu Dharam Veer Singh Jamwal, today, inaugurated IInd Farmers’ Direct Market at Talab Tillo Jammu.
The Department of Horticulture Planning & Marketing has recently taken an initiative of organizing weekly Kissan Mandies in various localities of Jammu city, to provide a common platform to small & marginal vegetable growers and ultimate consumers.
These Farmers’ Weekly Direct Markets are being organized on the directions of Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture Mr. Sham Lal Sharma and have been well appreciated by the farmer community.
The officers of the Department along-with prominent citizens from the area besides progressive farmers of Jammu district like Kulbushan Khajuria, Narotam Singh, Roop Chand Bhagat, Ashwani Sharma, Parmanand Padha, Raghunandan Khajuria, Rajinder Singh, Tilak Raj and Rajesh Sharma were also present.
Area Marketing Officer Jammu informed the general public about utility of such direct markets for the masses in general and the farmer community in particular. He said that the department is going to inaugurate one such direct market at Sainik Colony very shortly.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives from the farmers’ community spoke about utility of such markets which are in overall interest of the society. They extended their thanks especially to Mohd Javed Khan Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing and to Jia Lal Sharma Director Horticulture Jammu for taking keen interest for welfare of farmers.
Sunil Bakshi Liaison Officer of Farmers’ Direct Market at Talab Tillo threw light on various steps being taken by the department for welfare of the farmers, traders and consumers. It was impressed upon the fruit & vegetable growers to shift to organic farming and the department shall issue green cards to farmers producing organic produce and shall provide full marketing assistance for their produce within as well as outside the state.
