DIG asks youth to follow Gandhian teachings

UDHAMUR, OCT-04:- To mark the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti 2011 a symposium on the topic “ Role of Mahatma Gandhi in Freedom Struggle” was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports Zone Jib of Udhampur district in the premises of Sacred Era Experimental School, Udhampur on Tuesday.
The DIG, Udhampur-Reasi range, Mr. Jagjit Kumar was the Chief Guest on the occasion who also distributed prizes among the winner participants.
Speaking on the occasion , the DIG highlighted the teaching and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and said he always strived hard to secure a dignified place for the deprived and down trodden people in the society. He said that Gandhi ji adopted the path of non- violence during the freedom struggle of the country which proved a powerful weapon against the oppression of foreign rulers. He urged the students to follow the footprints of father of the Nation to carry out the message of peace, prosperity and progress.
He also asked the department to organize more such functions adding such events help the youth to broaden their vision and overcome the parochial set of mind.
As many as 17 students drawn from various schools of Zone Jib participated in the symposium.
Mr. Retish Tikko of Sacred Era Experimental school bagged 1st position while Miss Sabina of AOC, Udhampur and Miss Neetika of Holy Angel High School, Udhampur clinched 2nd and 3rd position respectively. The programme was organized under the guidance of Zonal Physical Education Officer, Jib , Mr. Bhushan Sethi.
At the end, Director Sacred Era Experimental, School Mr. Ashoka Tickoo, presented vote of thanks, while S. Jasvinder Singh conducted proceeding of the programme. Mr. Raj Guru, Mr Bansi Lal and Mr. Karan Singh acted as judges in contest. Among others, Dy. SP, Mr. Bodh Raj, Social Worker, Mr. S.D. Kotwal, ZPEO, Udhampur, Miss, Champa, ZPEO, Kulwanta, Mr. Ram Lal, Headmaster High School Satani, Mr. Romesh Kumar, Mr. Pawan Kumar and Mr. Som Dev Khajuria PEMs were present on the occasion.
