Clean sweep by Jammu in divisional basketball | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Sports & Allied News JAMMU, Oct 04: Host Jammu district made a clean sweep winning all the finals held in four different age groups of boys and girls in the divisional level inter-district basketball tournament which was organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Police Stadium, Gulshan Ground, here today. In the under-19 boys title clash, Jammu outplayed district Samba 25-15 points while in under-17 final, Jammu trounced Kathua 32-19. Later, in under-14 boys final, Jammu defeated district Udhanpur 18-16 by a narrow margin of two points. In girls under-17 category, Jammu outplayed district Samba 18-10 points to make it a clean sweep. Earlier, only under-14 boys’ event was considered to be the competition and the teams given away the medals and trophies. In other age groups, only three teams each turned up resulted into a competition which considered to be an exercise to select the divisional teams. None of the winners and runners up teams were presented medals and trophies but only the participation certificates. In the finals and prize distribution function, Director DYSS, Jai Pal Singh was chief guest, who complimented the winners and runners-up teams. Among others present were Deputy Directors, SS Bali and Ashok Kumar as also other senior officers of the department. Today’s finals officiated by Vishal Bharati, Rajesh Vindral, Jyoti an Amarjeet Singh.
Jammu bags hockey title
Meanwhile, in the inter-district under-15 boys’ final for Jawahar Lal Nehru Hockey Cup, Jammu defeated district Poonch by three goals to two at SOS School, here today. The hockey final was officiated by Harvider Singh, Mandeep Singh, Daljeet Singh, Harcharan Singh, Karanjeet, Jageet Singh, Vipin and Ravinder Singh.
