‘ CET seats should be allotted on regional basis ’ | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, October 4: Kuldeep Kumar Rao , an active member of All J&K Movement for Peace and Justice has lamented that the Congress-NC government has failed to understand that equitable development is not possible without delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies. Minister for law & parliamentary affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar quoted in the assembly on October 3 , the Jammu and Kashmir Representation of peoples Act 1957 and said that delimitation can be done after the results of first census after 2026 are published. He further said that delimitation is done having regard to population, Geographical compactness, facilities of communication & so on. When the assembly is all powerful to make any amendment in any J&K law, why is the government sticking to the parrot like insistence on 1957 & 2026 only. All the conditions stated above by the Minister for effecting delimitation have undergone drastic change now . Rao also appealed to all political parties to come above politics and support the bill on constitution of delimitation commission in this coming session. This has led to injustice with the Jammu Province which has more population and area than Kashmir but only 37 Assembly seats have been provided to it as compared to Kashmir valley which has 46 assembly seats with less population and covers less area as compared to Jammu. All MLA’s and leaders from Jammu who are in PDP and in National Conference should support the bill for equitable development for all region and prove their loyalty to their own region which is a noble and patriotic quality and can not be labeled as regionalism. The other main demands of the people of Jammu region are allotment of CET seats on regional bases, creation of new tehsils and districts on the bases of equal distribution of population in comparison to those of Kashmir division, equal and near equal number of employees in the civil secretariat from both the regions of the state, and equal distribution of funds to both the divisions.
