Should tainted get painted on the floor of house? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 4: Tainted MLAs should not be allowed to speak in the Legislative Assembly at least for three sittings. This is what concerned quarters feel after yesterday's `extra-legislative' activities of the members on the floor of the house. But is it possible? And, who can take the initiative? The questions merit special consideration. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mahbooba Mufti gave a `soft' scolding to former works minister G.M. Saroori when he tried to make a point when the leader of opposition was delivering her fiery speech. According to a local newspaper, Mahbooba told him: "You are the one who lost his ministerial berth for a mistake." Reports said a humbled Saroori immediately and quietly took his seat. Saroori had to quit last year when the Jammu police arrested seven impersonators appearing in MBBS/BDS entrance examination for a private college allegedly on behalf of kin of two politicians, including a Congress minister in Omar Cabinet. Saroori's response has many a lesson to teach to the legislators. The Bharataya Janata Party (BJP) was very vocal in demanding ouster of Saroori following the above quoted incident. But they have not uttered a word over National Conference (NC) worker's death in Crime Branch custody. The BJP, it seems, is in no mood to strain its relations with the Chief Minister. They have helped him get NC candidates elected to the upper house of the legislature. And recently, he `used' them to stall Afzal Guru Clemency resolution. Mubarak Gul who happens to be the Chief Minister's advisor also must learn a lesson from Saroori. He is also involved in a similar act. And last but not the least, the leader of opposition also has a lesson to learn. Every body in the Assembly is not as docile as Saroori. You made him sit down but there are others who are not ready to quit no matter how much you scream. The custodial death of their worker means nothing to them. |
