'Sino-Indian Border Terrain Difficult for Development' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU | OCT 05, 2011:The government today said the terrain along the Sino-Indian border was lot more difficult for undertaking infrastructure development.
"You must realise the terrain on the Indian side (of the border with China) is lot more difficult for undertaking intrastructure projects," Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju told reporters here.
However, there was a lot of interest in terms of accelerating border infrastructure projects, he said.
The minister was replying to questions about the high speed infrastructure being built by China along the Sino-Indian border in Arunanchal Pradesh and Ladakh sector.
"Keeping our condition in mind we are inducting appropriate kind of equipment (for speeding up border infrastructure along the Sino-Indian border)," he said.
The minister along with Director General Border Road Organisation Lt Gen S Ravi Shankar reviewed the progress of ongoing road and bridge projects here.
Praising BRO for its work in Sikkim belt after the earthquake, the minister said "feasibility study is being done for construction of Zojila tunnel on Srinagar-Leh highway."
"For other projects, we are also looking for feasibility studies."
