BJP Demands Omar's Resignation
10/6/2011 12:43:13 AM
NEW DELHI: BJP today demanded Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's resignation in the wake of the alleged custodial death of a NC worker in the state, saying an impartial probe into the case is not possible as long as he is in office.
National Conference worker Syed Mohammad Yousuf allegedly died in police custody after being handed over to the Crime Branch. The opposition has been demanding that his killers be identified and brought to justice.
"Eyewitness claims point to graft and murder. How can there be an impartial probe if Omar is in office?" BJP national Secretary Varun Gandhi said on Twitter.
Yousuf's death in mysterious circumstances last week has created a political storm in the state. Calls for the resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his close aide have gained impetus.
PDP members, led by their party president Mehbooba Mufti, have been protesting on the streets against the Omar Abdullah government.
