NMC demands holiday on Karva Chauth | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 6:President of the National Mazdoor Conference Subash Shastri has appealed the Chief Minister to declare holiday for the women employees of State Government on Karva Chauth falling on October 15. In a memorandum sent to Omar Abdullah today, Shastri said that Karvachauth is a important day for the women folk and they observed day long fast. In neighbouring State of Himachal Pradesh there is holiday on the eve of Karvachauth, hence the State Government should also follow the suit. In the memorandum, Shastri has also demanded the advance payment of salaries to the employees before the Diwali festival which is being celebrated on oct 26th this month In the memorandum Shastri also appealed the Chief Minister to release the pending instalment of 7% D.A due from July last in favour of its employees and pensioners well before Diwali festival in view of sharp increase of the prices of essential commodities and inflation as the same DA instalment have already been released by the Centre and other State Governments to their employees and pensioners since long. Shastri pointed out that since there is already budget provIsion by the Finance Minister for the years 2011-2012, there should not be any hitch for the state Government in releasing the DA. The delayed in release of DA would not only puts burden on the Government exchequer to liquidate the arrears but also increase the difficulties of employees and pensioners, he added. Issuance of regularization orders of 180 Daily wagers working in the Rural Development department, Regularisation of services of all Daily wagers working in various Government Departments, enhancement of wages of daily wagers from 125 to 300 per day were other demands highlighted in the memorandum.
