SDM, Nowshera orders closure of illegal brick kilns
10/7/2011 9:30:27 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct. 7:Brick Kilns in Tehsils Nowshera, Kalakote and Sunderbani have been directed to be closed with immediate effect through an Executive Order issued by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nowshera.
The decision was taken in view of violation of Jammu and Kashmir Brick Kilns Act 2010. The Brick Kilns were reported to be operating without valid licenses from the Deputy Commissioner. Moreover, according to reports from area brick kilns were charging double the rate fixed by district administration and warnings were issued to them from time to time for adhering to the terms of 2010 Act, issuing receipts against payment for bricks sold and obtaining valid licenses. It is pertinent to mention here that Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri had constituted a Task Force in August 2010 with directions to ensure that all the brick kilns violating the norms are closed and owners of Kilns were asked to operate under valid licenses. But even after two months the brick kilns were found operating contrary to the legal provisions.
Taking cognizance of this illegality, and after receiving a number of deputations from all the Tehsils, SDM Nowshera, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, directed immediate closure of brick kilns. Joint teams of magistrates and police have been entrusted with the job. As per the order, operation of brick kilns shall be put on hold and all the material including bricks will be seized.
The order will remain in force till the Kilns start operating as per the provisions of J&K Brick Kilns Act 2010 and also follow the provisions of Consumer Protection Act.
