Food scarcity hits Dachan, Probe demanded with NEGRA funds | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kishtwar, Oct 7: As the food scarcity has hit worst the Dachan area of kistwar districts, the people are up in arms against consumer affairs and public distribution department whose callousness has led to the problem. According to sources, over 25000 population of dachan area is facing worst food crisis for last couple of months and the authorities at the helm of affairs have failed to solve the issue despite the public protests. Sources said non availability of CAPD department ration at ration depots run by government coupled with delinking of area from rest of the state due to failure of authorities to construct the road has compounded the problem for local residents. Sources said the food scarcity has been mostly caused due to the area remaining cut of from rest of the state with no direct road link from Kishtwar to Dachan. The food scarcity has lead to price hike and blackmarketing with authorities remaining mute spectator to all. Sources said there is also a lot of resentment among the masses against Rural Development department for not releasing the payment among card holders under NERGA. The card holders who have worked on various NERGA schemes in 2010 have been deprived of payment till date. Mporeover out of Rs 11,000 as prescribed by the government to be pais a single card holder under the schemes some were paid Rs 4000 while others only Rs 2000, sources added. Sources said that the Government has released funds for these card holders but the authorities have failed to make payment on ground. Meanwhile BJP state Secretary Sunil Sharma and Dachan-Marwah Bolck President of the Party have demanded a Judicial probe into bungling.
