Semifinals line up drawn in U-19 football | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 07: Semifinals position has been cleared with the entry of Samba, Poonch and Udhampur districts in the last four stages of the opening day of the two-day inter-district divisional level under-19 boys’ knock-out football tournament, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at GGM Science College ground, here today. The fourth team of Jammu district is already placed in the semi-finals after the side was awarded a bye for being defending champion. Since only seven teams turned up for the competition, the first round of quarterfinal was played today. In the first quarterfinal of the day, Samba district outplayed Rajouri by two goals to nil. Both the goals were scored by Vikas Singh. He netted the ball for the first goal in the 11th minute and later converted a penalty kick into goal in the 52nd minute of the match to make it a 2-0 win. Later, the formidable side of district Poonch trounced Kishtwar 3-0. Rantek Singh scored two goals striking in the 50th and 26th minute while third goal came through Aman Kumar in the 32nd minute of the match. In the third quarterfinal, Udhampur blanked district Ramban 4-0. Vishal and Nikhil scored two goals each. Meanwhile, district Poonch also made it to the final of boys’ under-14 event outplaying Udhampur district by a solitary goal. The only goal was scored by R Latif. Now, Poonch shall take on title holder, district Jammu in the final tomorrow. Only three districts turned up for the under-14 competition. Today’s matches were officiated by penal of experts including Mohinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Gagan Kumar and Kushey Kumar under the supervision of ZPEO, R C Vaid.
