NC expects Kamal to play Sehwaag | Will hard hitting serve any purpose? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 7: On Sher-e-Kashmir's anniversary, an angry Farooq Abdullah scolded his younger brother, Dr Mustafa Kamal. He cautioned him against issuing `controversial' statements. He was speaking at a function held to commemorate the 105thbirth anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir. "Mind your words", an angry Farooq told Kamal. However, ten months down the line, Dr Farooq appointed Kamal as the Chief spokesperson of National Conference (NC). To put it plainly, a person who `did not know what to talk and when to talk' has been entrusted with the job of speaking on behalf of Sher-e-Kashmir's party. Surprisingly Kamal is urged to deliver at a time when PDP and other opposition parties have launched a tirade against the NC. Farooq Abdullah, it is apparent, wants Kamal to play Sehwaag. But can hard hitting serve any purpose at this crucial phase? Expressing his anger during the above mentioned function, Farooq said: "Whenever Kamal issues a statement, the media attribute it to me. But why should I do that." Kamal who was also present at the function listened silently and did not show any reaction. Kamal, the youngest son of Sher-e-Kashmir remained in news for several weeks for his statements against New Delhi, accession and the Congress party. Kamal's statements evoked a severe reaction from the State Congress Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz. He has urged the NC high command to rein in Kamal. His latest statement which was published in local English daily has been ridiculed by senior NC workers. Kamal has said his father wanted to die in prison to "fight last war with India". Kamal said on his death-bed, Sheikh said he did not want to die in his home. "He told me that he wanted to die in prison to fight last war with India. He had realized that New Delhi had ditched him time and again," Kamal said Sheikh did not die before leaving a message for the people of Kashmir: "Don't bow. Keep fighting for your rights and never let anybody exploit you." Kamal, however, did not say why Sheikh framed the Public Safety Act (PSA). |
