| Wildlife Week concluded with Valedictory function | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, OCTOBER 08- To create awareness among the people about the significance of preserving wildlife and the forests, the Department of Wildlife Protection Jammu observed Wildlife Week, 2011, which is celebrated every year throughout country on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
The valedictory function was held at Nature Interpretation Centre, Manda by the Department of Wildlife.
Former PCCF, Mr. P.P. Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr. C.M. Seth, Former Chairman J&K State Pollution Control Board was the guest of honour.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu, Mr. Upender Pachnanda, Member Wildlife Advisory Board, Mr. S.D. Swatantra, Wildlife Warden Jammu, Mr. Tahir Shawl, senior officers of department, representatives of various NGOs, prominent citizens, students and teachers from various schools participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. P.P. Sharma said that the main objective of organizing such programmes is to create awareness among the people about the importance of conservation and protection of wildlife. He said that the department of Wildlife is conducting a series of such events at various levels especially in educational institutions to generate awareness among the general masses about the ways of protecting wildlife and environment from the threat of global warming.
On the occasion, Mr. Pankaj Dutta was honoured with Van Prani Mitra Award by the department of Wildlife Protection for his exceptional efforts in preserving wildlife and other natural resources.
The students from different schools participated in painting, debate songs, skit competitions and also presented cultural items on the occasion.
Besides, trophies and consolation prizes were also distributed among the winners and participants by the chief guest.
