One Day RTI awareness prog held at Reasi

Jammu, Oct 8: One day RTI training workshop was held at district Reasi for sensitizing the officers and publsic information officers about the provisions of Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009.
The programme was organized by Institute of Management and Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPA) represented by program coordinator Rachna Goswami, (sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commisison).
In the training program officers belonging to different departments of district Reasi participated besides the members of the Sangarsh RTI Movement representing the Civil Society.
In the first session of the workshop, Rachna Goswami briefed the PIO’s about the history/background of the RTI Act.
She said genesis of sharing of information and transparency is there, since period of Mahabharata, she even quoted certain verses (chapter 4) of the pious book BhagavadGeeta which says “Truth about the action must be known. Truth about the inaction must be known; Truth about the prohibited action must be known, mysterious are the ways of action”.
RTI activist Balvinder Singh of Sangarsh group also shared experiences of their organization about the RTI Act, whereas activist Ayaz Mughal, through his power point presentation explained with regard to problems faced by the RTI users on ground especially in rural areas.
He requested the PIO’s to render all possible assistance to the aspiring RTI applicants. Another member of the Sangarsh Group and RTI Activist Raman Sharma underlined the section 4 of the RTI Act, which is deemed as soul of the Act and explained about basic differences between the Central Act and the State Act. The RTI activists shared the genuine grievances of the officers for smooth functioning of the RTI Act, majority of the PIO’s expressed their helplessness in disposing of the RTI applications within stipulated period of time due to lack of infrastructure for proper implementation of the RTI Act. Later on a lively interactive session was conducted in which the program coordinator and RTI experts replied to various queries of the RTI act.
