GDC Udhampur organises programme on monetary policy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 8: Dept. Of Commerce and Management of Govt. Degree College Udhampur organised a debate competition on “Impact of Monetary Policy on Indian Economy” in the college conference hall. Dipankar Sen Gupta, professor of Economics and OSD Exam (Non-Prof) University of Jammu was the chief guest and the key resource person whereas Ravinder Tickoo Head Dept. of Electronics and officiating principal presided over the programme. Gupta delivered an expert talk on the topic. In his presentation he said that the Reserve Bank of India has an important role to play in price and exchange rate stability. He highlighted the importance of expectations in the formulation of monetary policy by the RBI. “Monetary policy alone cannot control inflation in an economy like India which is dual in character with many bottlenecks. Objectives of monetary policy like price stability and economic growth may be conflicting in the short run but they are complementary in the longer period. Investment in the agricultural sector is the key to control food inflation”, he added. Earlier the program began with a welcome address by Pooja Head of the host Dept and also introduced the topic of the debate. It was followed by the debate competition in which 10 students of B.com and BBA participated. Rajni stood first whereas Apeeksha and Himanshu secured second and third positions respectively. Other participants included Sulekha, Varsha, Pooja, Ridhima, Shipali, Akash and Subraph. Ravinder Tickoo, Udey Bhano and Romesh Chander Sharma were the jury members. Esha Sharma and Vinod Gupta conducted the proceedings. All the students of B.Com, BBA and Economics attended the program.
