| CIC highlights importance of RTI | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Oct 8: State Chief Information Commissioner G R Sofi has called upon the people to avail the benefits of RTI Act to achieve its ultimate objective.
He said that RTI is an important tool to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of government offices.
Acknowledging that a large number of people are coming forward to seek information from various departments, Sofi said that still awareness is needed so that people could make effective use of this important service.
He was addressing a large gathering at a seminar organized by the Peoples’ Forum here today. The objective of the seminar was to empower people through RTI.
Various speakers including eminent Supreme Court lawyer Ashok Bhan spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of the RTI in the society. They discussed various aspects of the Act threadbare and opined that the Act would prove very useful for all sections of the society and ensure transparency and accountability in the government functioning.
Those spoke on the occasion, included, senior Advocate, Supreme Court, Ashok Bhan, Convener of the People’s Forum, Malik Imtiyaz, Nadeem Qadri, Advocate and others.
