Govt strengthening road network in far off areas: Sham

JAMMU, OCTOBER 08 –The central and state government has launched a number of road and bridge projects to link all the far-flung and hilly areas of the state with urban centres besides upgrading the basic amenities in these areas.
This was stated by the Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma in a meeting to review the development works in the area held at Akhnoor here today.
Mr. Sham said that development of Akhnoor town is receiving priority attention in the policy planning of various schemes in the sector of R&B, PHE, PWD, Health, Tourism and education. He said a comprehensive plan for channelizing River Chenab is under the active consideration of the government for optimum utilization of chenab water.
Mr. Sham said that health and education sectors are receiving focused attention of present government adding that various steps have been taken to augment existing infrastructure in these sectors besides creating additional latest faculties.
Mr. Sham underlined the importance of horticulture in state’s economy and said that special attention is required for integrated and comprehensive development of this vital sector. He said that horticulture and allied sectors offer greater avenues of employment to educated youth for earning respectable livelihood and catapulting the welfare and economy of the state.
Appreciating the efforts of horticulture department for making new strides in strengthening the sector and ensuring welfare of the growers, Mr. Sham emphasized the need of increasing per unit productivity and ensuring remunerative returns to the growers for their produce.
Among others, Director Health, Jammu, Dr. Madhu Khullar, Director Horticulture, Mr. Jia Lal Sharma, Director Floriculture, Mr. K. K. Sharma, BMO Akhnoor, Joint Director Horticulture, sectoral officers of various departments, President Viklang Chatra Trust, Mr. Satpal Saraf and newly elected sarpanches and panches were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the Minister also visited the site for proposed 100 bedded hospital at Akhnoor and discussed the plan for the site with Housing Board Managing Director, Mr. Dalip Thusso.
On the occasion, the people of the areas putforth various grievances and demands to the Minister which mainly include disilting of canals, provision of safe drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, establishment of paddy procurement mandis in the area, etc.
Responding to their demands, the Minister paid patient hearing and assured them that all their genuine demands would be redressed in a phased manner.
Meanwhile, the Block Committee Akhnoor and Saint Samaj also facilitated the Minister for achieving the Leadership Award in Horticulute-2011.
