Jammu boys retain U-19, U-14 football titles | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Sports & Allied News JAMMU, Oct 08: Jammu district retained both under-14 and under-19 titles in the annual inter-district boys’ divisional level football tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at GGM Science College ground, here today. In the under-19 final, Jammu district trounced Samba by two goals to nil. Ricky and Rakesh were the scorers from winners Jammu. Earlier, in the semi-finals, both Jammu and Samba had miraculous escape winning the matches in tie-breaker only. In the first semi-final, Poonch boys held Jammu to a goalless draw but could not control their nerves and lost in the penalties 1-2. From Jammu, Pankaj Dogra and Rakesh Roshan succeeded in their attempts while Dilawar Singh and Pankaj Dogra missed the target. Similarly, Ranteek Singh, Janu Sharma, Maqbool Ahmed and Rahul Sharma failed in their attempts on the net while Rahul Sharma was successful in beating the goal-keeper. Later, in the second semi-final, Samba registered a 4-3 win over district Udhampur in tie-breaker. In the stipulated time the score remained 1-1. Rahul Slathia opened the account for Samba in the 15th minute while Vishal Kotwal leveled the score bringing in an equalizer in the 45th minute. In the tie-breaker, Rahul, Sourav Jasrotia, Rishab and Arjun were successful in their attempts while Sunil and Rahul missed the target. From Udhampur, Aman and Vishisht managed to dodge the alert goal-keeper while Vishal, Naveen and Abhishek missed the opportunities. Meanwhile, in the under-14 final, Jammu district blanked Poonch 5-0. Vivaswan Sawhney (6th), Raghav Gupta (9th and 17th), Ishan Gupta (16th) and Kajal Singh (19th) were the scorers. Today’s matches were officiated by Bharat Bhushan, Ajay Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Mohinder Singh, Harvinder Kour, Gagan Kumar, Rohit and Kushey Kumar under the guidance of RC Vaid (ZPEO). In the final and prize distribution function, Deputy Director DYSS, S S Bali was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also medals to the finalist teams.
