Tithwal villagers demand reconstruction of arterial road | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 9:Residents of Tithwal village in Kashmir valley today demanded the reconstruction of a ruined arterial road, as they have to face a lot of difficulties due to its dilapidated condition. The village, which falls near the Line of Control, is considered to be strategically important from the military point of view. "Here is a shortage of vehicles. The road gets blocked if there is a slight rain or snowfall. We face difficulty while travelling. If somebody falls ill we had to carry him. At times the person loses his life before reaching a hospital. The government has ignored us,” a local said. Locals claimed that despite their repeated pleas to government official, repair work on the roads had not begun. "We have complained to everybody (government officials) who came here, but we don't know what happened ahead," said another resident. However, the Deputy Commissioner of the State's Kupwara District, Mohammad Shafi Rather, said: "This road would be reconstructed within a year or two. It will be done by the Government of India and not by state government. It is very important from defence point of view as well as for our local population.
