Addressing media persons here today, Pushvinder Singh Manhas (state Sr. Vice President Young Panthers and Incharge NPSU) lambasted the state government for playing politics with thousands of the students of the state by issuing an order for the de-recognition of the degrees of those students who have passed their degree courses through distance education mode from the universities which have been recognized by UGC, accredited by NAAC and approved by Distance Education Council. He stated that section 2 (f) of UGC Act 1956 reads “off campus means a centre of the university established by it outside main campus. It may be within the state or outside the state.” And section 2 (h) off UGC Act 1956 defines study centre as “Study centre means a centre established and maintain or recognized by the university for the purpose advising, counselling and for rendering any other assistance required by the students in the context of distance education. He termed the rule of present NC-Congress coalition government as Ravana rule murdering the democracy and the rights of the masses of the state and said that the government will be solely responsible for spoiling the career of students. It is fault of government only as it failed to check the malpractices in the education system and fully responsible for the mushroom growth of study centres in the state.
