| Steps afoot to improve development and governance structure: CS | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, October 9 : A high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Madhav Lal to review the development scenario of the state was held here today at SKICC.
Senior officials from various central ministers and administrative secretaries of the state participated in the meeting.
Presenting an overview of the efforts made by the state government for improving the development scenario and for laying the framework for better governance Chief Secretary said that successful Panchayat Election and devolution of powers to these grass root institution will have a positive bearing on the development programs at various levels adding that our endeavour is to bring the governance structure within the state in conformity with the rest of the country.
The State Accountability Commission and State Information Commission have already been made fully functional he said adding that the amendment to the State Vigilance Act will further improve the functioning of the government in a transparent manner.
Matters related to Special Assistance Package to Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP), Power sector reforms, IT development, Health Infrastructure, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry etc. were discussed in detail. Issues related to tribal affairs in the state were also deliberated upon during the meeting. sectors.
Winding up the discussion the Chief Secretary said that various initiatives have already been put in place and the concerned departments would be directed to formulate proposals and schemes as per requirements for receiving central assistance for the development of the state.
