61st ‘tree-talk’ held in Batote | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 10 (KNS): After celebrating its diamond jubilee episode in Nishat Garden here, 61st ‘tree-talk’ was held inside Deodar woodland of Batote in which people from Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Jammu participated. Senior forest officer O P Sharma while highlighting the indispensable role of mushrooms and fungi in maintaining healthy growth of Deodars, said, “Without mycorrhizial association of fungal threads, roots of deodars and other conifers cannot absorb required nutrients and essential elements from the soil. This association is as per God’s well thought-out plan and design engineered in nature.” Deputy Director FPF Jarnail Singh appreciated new concept of ‘tree-talk’ campaign wherein environmental interaction with varied section of society is made possible to share ecological concerns and contribute towards betterment of environment and preservation of forests. The programme ended with a mesmerizing poetry session wherein tree and forest related poems were recited by tree lovers namely Dr K C Sharma, Prof Haqiqat Singh Chouhan, Om Vidyarthi and Sham Lal Agnihotri.
