Uncertainty prevails on Women's Reservation Bill
12/9/2006 12:57:28 AM

New Delhi, Dec 8
Denying the suggestion that the UPA government was paying lip service to the Women's Reservation Bill, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs P R Dasmunsi said he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today to find out whether it would be possible to introduce the Bill before his departure abroad or after his arrival.
''I will discuss with the Prime Minister and communicate to you the outcome,'' Mr Dasmunsi told mediapersons here. ''If it was not possbile to introduce the Bill in this Session, then too I would report to you.'' ''We want to go ahead with the Bill with the full consent of the UPA's constituent parties and the supporting parties, ''Mr Dasmunsi said, adding one section of the UPA partners had suggested that if the Prime Minister invited all the constituents to come along to discuss the matter, it would send a good message in the country.

Mr Dasmunsi said there was unanimity in the UPA over introduction of the Bill in Parliament in the Winter Session, but later one of the constituents felt it would not be possbile for it to deviate from its declared stand.

He said it would not be possible to bring Pension Fund Regulatory(Authority)Bill and the Banking Regulation Bill in the remaining part of the Session owing to the heavy agenda of business next week. Two major legislations, forest dwellling right Bill and OBC Reservation Bill and Supplementary Demands for Grants will come up for discussion next week.

Keeping in view the Left parties's request to discuss any development taking place on the Indo-US Nuclear deal, two days had been earmarked for discussion on November 18 and 19, he said.
