Annual inter-college football tournament of JU
MBS College drubs ASCOMS in opening tie

JAMMU, Oct 10: The formidable side of Mahant Bachiter Singh (MBS) College of Engineering and Technology registered a 3-2 win over Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) in the inaugural match of the annual inter-college men’s football tournament, organised by GGM Science College under the banner of Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU), here today.
Though both sides played equally good game, still MBS College emerged winner by taking full advantage of the opportunities came their way. On the other hand, ASCOMS missed a sure goal chance in the second half.
Leading by a goal in the 34th minute of the first half, MBS faced a tough resistance from the opponents amidst counter attacks. Gagandeep Singh scored the first goal while Amitpal Singh struck twice in the 37th and 47th minute to lead his side to invincible position.
However, a penalty kick awarded in favour ASCOMS, which was successfully converted into the goal by Adeep Singh in 48th minute, brought some tense moments in the MBS camp. Earlier, Syed Sahaan scored the first goal for ASCOMS striking in the 45th minute.
In the meantime, for his misconduct, skipper of MBS College, Jeewanjot Singh was shown a yellow card by the centre referee, Gagan Kumar.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau. He interacted with the teams playing the opening match at GGM Science College ground this morning.
Prof Bhau appreciated the arrangements and preparations on the ground by Director Physical Education of the host college, Dr Vinod Bakshi.

Missing PG Law and Science

Meanwhile, the host University of Jammu failed to field its PG Law and Science team for the competition resulting into walkover in favour of Government Degree College Samba. Bhargva Degree College also got walkover Government Degree College Bishnah.
In another scheduled match, both Degree College R S Pura and Government Degree College Thanamandi failed to turn up. Showing their non-seriousness, the Government Degree College Rajouri did not bother to even send the entry. Interestingly, both these colleges of Thanamandi and Rajouri have got Physical Training Instructors posted and are drawing handsome salaries.
