Ayodhya attack case transferred to Allahabad Sessions Court
12/9/2006 12:57:51 AM

Lucknow, Dec 8
The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today transferred the July 5, 2005 Ayodhya attack case to the Allahabad Sessions Court.

The hearing of the case was going on in the Faizabad District and Sessions Court. The decision was taken as no lawyer in Faizabad was ready to appear on behalf of the five terrorists arrested in connection with the attack.

Terrorists -- Naeem Ahmed, Asif Iqbal, Shakil Ahmed and Mohd Aziz -- were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir on July 14 and July 27 last year for providing arms and SIM cards to the five terrorists, who stormed the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. The fidayeens were, however, killed by the security forces.

On July 22, 2005 Dr Irfan-- a native of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh -- was also nabbed for assisting the four accused arrested from the valley.

Earlier, 'Nyaymitra' Rajendra Kumar Tiwari had refused to take up the case, alleging he was not provided with adequate security.

The Court, however, had sent a notice to him and written a letter to the Allahabad High Court saying if the terrorists are not provided with a lawyer immediately, the case would be transferred to some other district.

The Bench comprising Justice Abdul Mateen passed the order on an application given by the accused to the Lucknow High Court demanding transfer of the case to some other district.
