Govt to amend State Vigilance Act | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 10: State government has decided to amend the State Vigilance Act (SVA) to improve the functioning of the government. The State Accountability Commission (SAC) and State Information Commission (SIC) have already been made fully functional and amendment to the SVA will further improve the functioning of the government in a transparent manner. This information was given by Chief Secretary Madhav Lal at a meeting called to review the development scenario of the state here today. Senior officials from various central ministers and administrative secretaries of the state participated in the meeting. Presenting an overview of the efforts made by the state government for improving the development scenario and for laying the framework for better governance Chief Secretary said that successful Panchayat Election and devolution of powers to these grassroots institution will have a positive bearing on the development programmes at various levels. "Our endeavour is to bring the governance structure within the state in conformity with the rest of the country", he said. Matters related to Special Assistance Package to Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP), Power sector reforms, IT development, Health Infrastructure, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry were also discussed in detail. Issues related to tribal affairs in the state were also deliberated upon during the meeting, officials said here today
