| Lok Adalat caps long-pending problems through mediation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur, Oct 10:District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has taken up the task of reducing the burden of pending cases in the district courts. In a major initiative to cut down judicial backlog, the District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur, organized a Lok Adalat at the District Court complex, Udhampur, today . The Lok Adalat was organized under the chairmanship of Brij Mohan Gupta , Principal District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur who is also Chairman of District Legal Service Authority . Two Benches were constituted to deal and settle the cases referred to the Lok Adalat by different courts of Udhampur in the Lok Adalat. First bench comprising of B.M. Gupta, Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur and Vinod Chatterjee Koul, Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur was constituted to deal with Matrimonial and MACT cases. Second Bench comprising of Surjeet Singh Bali, Sub-Judge,(CJM), Udhampur and Amit Sharma, Munsiff Udhampur was constituted to deal with Civil & Criminal matters. In the lok Adalat total 14 cases of MACT nature and 25 of Criminal and Civil nature were taken up out of which 4 cases of MACT were settled and compensation amounting to Rs 15, 65,000 was given as compensation, while out of 25 civil and criminal cases 10 were settled. Speaking on the occasion B.M. Gupta, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur appreciated the pragmatic approach of the Bar and litigant public in settlement of the cases. He said that next Lok Adalat will be held on November 9. The Lok Adalat was attended by the Judicial Officers of Udhampur, litigants and member of bar.
