| NGO helps Kashmiris beat stress | | | Srinagar, Dec 8 International development agency ActionAid has set up the first hotline in Kashmir to help relieve stress after years of nerve-shattering bombings, shootouts and psychological warfare. Health experts say violence involving separatist militants and security forces in the Himalayan region has put Kashmir's traditionally easy-going people under severe strain. "Mental health is a big concern in Kashmir," ActionAid's Kiran Shaheen told Reuters by telephone from New Delhi. "ActionAid has opened a hotline which will help people suffering from different mental disorders due to militancy."
Despite a fall in violence, psychiatrists says stress levels are high among Kashmiris and hundreds of thousands of police and soldiers fighting militants in the region, which has been torn by 17 years of insurgency
