WORLD WILDLIFE WEEK CULMINATES AT MIER | | | EARLY EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , Oct 10To create awareness among the staff and students regarding conservation of environment and preservation of wildlife, MIER College of Education celebrated World Wildlife Week starting from 4th Oct. 2011. 35 students of Environment Education Unit of MIER College of Education in different batches were taken to a Wildlife Sanctuary at Ramnagar (Manda). The objective of the visit was to familarise the students with the importance and need of conservation of flora and fauna.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER group of institutions, Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director, MIER, Dr. Annie Koul, HOD B. Ed Wing, Dr. P. L. Koul, OSD MIER, and the faculty members of MIER were present to grace the occasion. Dr. Renu Gupta while addressing the students stated that we must preserve our forests, fisheries and the diversity of living species, all of which are close to collapsing under the pressure of human consumption and destruction.
The students were accompanied by. Monika Bajaj, Head Environment Unit and Mr. Vinod Kalra, NSS Officer of the college. During the visit, students interacted with the instructor who conveyed them about the ill effects of ever increasing population, industrialization and deforestation on the habitat of wild animals and environment. He emphasized the need of maintaining balance of ecosystem for the overall the health of the planet. The students were shown rare species of birds and animals which are near to extinction to arouse consciousness among them for wildlife.
During this week, students participated enthusiastically in various competitions like Drawing, Poem, Story writing and photography and they enjoyed a wonderful experience and were able to gather a lot of information from the visit.
