There is no change on ground with regard to discrimination against Jammu: Chaman
10/12/2011 12:15:45 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 11: Voicing his concern over the neglect by the State Government to construct the flyovers in the capital city of Jammu even after repeated announcements and sanction of Rs. 63 crores for B.C Road- Janipur projects, Chaman Lal Gupta has alleged that there appears no change on the ground with regard to discrimination against Jammu even after the loud claims of the ruling leaders that they are extending equal treatment to all the regions of the State.
In a statement, Gupta said that there was growing congestion in this capital city of Jammu. The traffic arrangements are worsening with each passing day. The situation is bound to worsen after the Darbar Move in the coming days.
Even after loud pronouncements for constructing of Flyovers on B.C Road and Jewel Chowk to Talab Tillo, little practical was done during the 10th and 11th plan period.
But it was astonishing that in written reply to his question in the recent session of Assembly the Minister concerned had informed:
“ As the Flyovers involve huge costs, instead of constructing Flyovers the department is widening various roads. The construction of a two lane B.C Road Flyover was under consideration for funding under Asian Development Fund, however it was realized that for optimum utilization and for the construction of flyover, widening of the B.C Road in the first instance, is mandatory.
The B.C Road shall be widened to 8 lane in the first instance and the construction of Flyover shall be taken at a subsequent stage.”
Gupta said that this is virtual denial of the earlier commitments and it sounds like a joke that 8 lane roads would be constructed in the old city especially on B.C Road and in other localities which would involve not only huge expenditure but virtually an impossible task in the prevailing situation.
He impressed upon the Chief Minister and other concerned to opt for a realistic approach instead of evading the issue of tackling the issue of growing congestion.
