Govt seeks central help in resolving unemployment problem | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, October 11 :-Graduates top the list of those educated youths who are registered with the employment exchanges in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of over six lakh educated youth registered with the employment exchanges about 85,000 are graduates followed by 77,000 youths who have passed middle standard examination. Official reports said that not more than 4,000 illiterates are registered with the employment exchanges. As far as the number of postgraduates registered with the employment exchanges is concerned it has touched 22,000. According to these reports those who are yet to complete the TDC are at the top as their number registered with the employment exchanges has touched 1.75 lakhs followed by 1.55 lakh matriculates. As far as the professionally qualified youths are concerned Diploma holders outnumber the degree holders. There over 18,000 diploma holders registered with the employment exchanges this is followed by over 9,000 degree holders waiting for jobs. Official sources said that the Government besides opening new avenues for the educated youth in the state services emphasis is being laid on self-employment scheme which is in force in Jammu and Kashmir since 2,000. Reports said that the number of youths wishing to enjoy the benefits of self-employment scheme has been in creasing during the last 10 years. The Government has disbursed loan in 2350 cases during the last year when in 2000-2001 the number of loan beneficiaries was about 1250 cases. Similarly about 3,000 cases had been sanctioned under the self-employment scheme during 2009-2010 against 1377 in 2000-2001. According to these reports, the state Government has conveyed to the centre that since the job avenues in the state services were limited the Government of India should help the state by reserving jobs in the Armed forces and paramilitary forces for the educated youth belonging to Jammu and Kashmir. The centre has been requested to persuade the private companies to reserve at least 10 per cent jobs for the educated youth belonging to Jammu and Kashmir failing which the number of unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir would continue to swell which was bound to destabilise peace.
