7th JK Science Congress (JKSC-11) on anvil | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 11: The University of Jammu is organizing 7th JK Science Congress (JKSC-11) from 13th to 15th October, 2011 in its campus with academic partnership of the prestigious J&K State Council of Science and Technology and in collaboration with all the Universities of J&K state, IIIM and SKIMS. The theme of JKSC-11 is Science and Technology: Inspiring Innovation. The science Congress is organized under the chairmanship of Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Jammu. Rajive Gupta, Dean Research and Dean, Faculty of Science, is the Organizing Secretary and Kuldeep K. Sharma, Head, Dept. of Zoology is the Co- Organizing Secretary. Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Science and Technology and Information Technology shall be the Chief Guest of the inaugural session to be held on Thursday, 13th October at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex, University of Jammu. The Congress seeks to provide a platform for scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs in the region to deliberate on developmental issues relating to science and technology. The objectives include integration and application of knowledge from science and technology to relevant community, presentations and discussions of scientific research development and their implications for growth and development and initiation and nurture of international/national scientific partnerships. More than 750 participants from different universities, Govt. and private colleges, other academic-research institutions and industries from J&K and outside the state are expected to participate in the JKSC-11. About 600 abstracts have been received for oral and poster presentations. The JK science Congress was first held in 2005 as a means to stimulate interest and proficiency in the sciences. The JK Science congress is an annual conference organized to enable local and neighboring researchers, professionals, and students to interact and share their research work in Science and Technology. There is a need to focus on innovations to deliver the benefits of science and technology across the society which can ultimately lead to inclusive development. There is a need to evolve and promote technologies to increase accessibility, affordability and also create sustainable livelihood and productive income generating opportunities for those who have been excluded from such opportunities. There is a need to improve linkage between technology development and technology applications by strengthening the ties between basic research and business. Focus areas of the 7th JK Science Congress include J&K Science and Technology Vision 2030, Greener Technology and Energy Crisis: Non-Conventional/ Alternate energy. The broad subject areas for technical sessions include Botany, Agriculture and Forestry, Human Genetics, Bio-Technology, Veterinary Sciences, Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Medical Science, Home Science, Mathematical Science, Zoology etc. The JKSC-11 features special lectures by prominent researchers and educators and contributed research papers on different areas of science and technology.
