| Maj Gen Pama takes over as chief of staff Northern Command | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Udhampur, Oct 11: Major General Balbir Pama, Sena Medal, took over the reins of Chief of Staff of the prestigious Northern Command at Udhampur. Maj Gen Balbir Pama, on his arrival laid a wreath at the Dhruva Saheed Samark and thereafter met all officers posted in Headquarters Northern Command.
The General is an alumnus of the Officer Training Academy, Chennai and was commissioned into the 2/3 GORKHA RIFLES in Sep 1974. After early years of regimental service and staff appointments, he graduated from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has done the Senior Command, Higher Command and National Defence College courses.. The General Officer has vast experience in counter insurgency and high altitude warfare. He commanded 3/3 GORKHA RIFLES, an Infantry Brigade in J&K, and an Infantry Division in the plains of Punjab. He has been an instructor in Infantry School, Mhow, and a United Nations Observer in UNIMOG.
The General has held a number of prestigious staff appointments to include Brigade Major, Colonel General Staff and Brigadier General Staff. Before taking over the mantle of Chief of Staff - Northern Command, he was the Additional Director General of Perspective Planning, at the Army Headquarters.
