Centre assures full support for Dal dwellers rehab | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct. 11 (KNS): Central government has assured Jammu and Kashmir government of full support for rehabilitating Dal dwellers.
Sources told KNS that Union Environment Secretary Dr. T Chatterjee assured the state government of full support from center in rehabilitating Dal dwellers.
Chatterjee reviewed the conservation of Dal and Nageen lakes in a high level meeting here on Monday which was also attended by Commissioner Secretary Forests, Principal Chief Conservator, Chairman State Pollution Control Board and Vice Chairman LAWWDA.
The Secretary, MOEF was informed that substantial progress had been achieved on the activities like Catchments Area Development works. The secretary was also told in the meeting that two new sewage treatment plants of the capacity to treat 16.1 MLD and 5.4 MLD of sewage at Brari Numbal and Nallah Amir Khan were under construction and expected to be commissioned by March 2012.
Sources in the LAWWDA told KNS that the Secretary asked the state government to explore the possibility for extraction of Methane gas and generation of electricity that could be utilized to run the STPs.
