Women inclusive plan, gender budgeting, child sex ratio discussed | Planning Commission member calls on CS | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar Oct 11 (KNS): Detailing the initiatives that State Government has taken for empowerment of women and their active participation in the socio-economic development process, Chief Secretary Mr. Madhav Lal said that Panchayat Raj institutions in the state and election of women members to these grass root democratic institutions will give further boost to this cause.
During an interactive meet here today with Member Planning Commission Sayeeda Hameed and reputed economist Dr. Devika Jain, Chief Secretary referred to various initiatives, flagship programmes and awareness campaigns launched in the State for women’s empowerment and to maintain the male female child sex ratio.
The members briefed the Chief Secretary about their field visit to various hospitals, anganwari centres, educational institutions and their interactions with several women groups including ASHA workers, lady health workers etc. They said that they have found the attitude of women in the state remarkably vibrant towards varied economic activities and social issues related to them.
The members laid stress on educating the society with regard to child sex ratio and suggested that Panchayats nurturing development and education of girl child should receive special incentives from the government. During the interaction gender budgeting, women inclusive plan and other women specific issues were also discussed in detail.
The members also showed keen interest in the rich heritage of Jammu and Kashmir particularly visible in Srinagar city and emphasized the need for its preservation.
