| GREF labourer dies in road mishap at Kishtwar | | | KISHTWAR: A youth was today killed after he was run over by a GREF vehicle on Kishtwar-Paddar road where he worked as labourer.
Sanjay Kumar, son of Gopi Chand of Dachla, Kishtwar, worked as labourer with GREF on the Kishtwar-Paddar road where upgradation work had been in progress for the past few months.
Today, while he was doing his work, a GREF vehicle ran over him, resulting in his instant death.
His death led to a protest, with people blocking the Kishtwar-Paddar road. They were demanding adequate compensation to the family of Sanjay who was the sole bread earner in the family after his father's death.
GREF officials, police officers and naib-tehsildar Daljeet Parihar reached the spot and pacified the protesters. GREF officials paid the family Rs 10,000 for performing last rites on the Sanjay's body.
After protesting for over eight hours, the protesters dispersed peacefully and took the body for cremation. Sanjay is survived by his mother and an eight-year-old sister.
Police had seized the GREF vehicle and arrested its driver. |
