Court awards 10 yrs RI to 3 drug peddlers

Kishtwar: District principal and sessions judge, Kishtwar, ML Manhas today awarded 10 year rigorous imprisonment to three peddlers.
They included Farooq Ahmad Dhobi, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dhobi of ward No 5, Kishtwar, Shahnawaz Butt, son of Ghulam Ali Butt of Gandoh, and Bharat Bhushan Wazir, son of Mohan Lal Wazir of Hidyal Chowk, Kishtwar.
A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on them by the court. They were found guilty of selling and procuring heroin.
Pronouncing his judgment, the judge found all the three accused guilty and awarded them 10 years rigorous imprisonment, with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
In case of default, the accused will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for two years.
The judge also directed to destroy the seized heroin under rules after the period of appeal was over. The accused would serve their period of sentences in district jail, Ambphalla, Jammu.
They were captured on August 30, 2009, by a police team led by DSP (operations) Ashok Singh, SI Surjeet Kumar and army Major Parnav along with 800 grams of heroin.
