‘Cold war’ between Abdullahs affects NC adversely | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 11: The allegation that National Conference worker fell to strained relations between Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq cannot be rejected on the face of it. Farooq, according to informed sources has strained relations with his son for a host of reasons. Sources said Omar has replaced Farooq's friends and acquaintances from key positions in bureaucracy and the party. When Farooq sought rehabilitation of his friend and former chairman of Jammu Kashmir Bank, Muhammad Yusuf Khan, and Omar raised his brows but remained silent. This happens to be the only time when Farooq succeeded in getting a fair deal from his son. The father-son duo has been reported by National press as well. According to a New Delhi based newspaper, Omar has monopolized NC to the extent that `NC has become Omar and Omar has become NC'. Yusuf, it is believed was very close to Dr Farooq. Reports said, Yusuf wanted to wait for instructions from Dr Farooq on September 29 when he was handed over to Crime Branch. Yusuf's insistence to wait for Farooq angered Omar, said the reports. Dr Farooq however played a matured politician on his return from New Delhi last week. He supported Omar and tried his best to wash his hands off the Yusuf episode. But Farooq's `heroics' did not help the Sheikh family much. Speculations are rife that a `cold war' was going on between Farooq Abdullah and junior Abdullah. "It has adversely affected the party", said a senior worker. He added that the NC had shrunk even in areas once considered its bastion. |
