Amid speculations interlocutors to submit report today | Political parties curious, common man 'unconcerned' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 11: Amid speculations about the contours of its contents with regard to K issue, the three central interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir will submit their report to union Home Minister P. Chidambaram tomorrow. While political parties in both the rgions are eagerly awaiting as to what would be recommendations made by the interlocutors based on their over year long exercise of marathon meetings and interactions, the common masses across show no excitement , instead exhibit little skepticism about any difference it would make in the existing scenario. From political parties to common people in the Jammu region, apprehensions are galore that recommendations could be one-sided, focussing attention on Kashmir , the common man and separatists in the valley feel the impressions of the interlocutors would matter little in resolving larger political issues. Three interlocutors - noted journalist Dileep Padgaonkar, academician Radha Kumar and former information commissioner M.M. Ansari - have already assured that concerns of all sections and all regions have been taken full care of in their report which is likely to be submitted by them tomorrow. With subitting this report, their term of appointment also expires for the crucial assignment they were entrusted last year post unrest for over three months in Kashmir Valley.. The interlocutors were appointed in October last year, when the Kashmir situation had turned grim following street protests and the killing of more than 100 youth. A year on, there is apprehension in Jammu , one of the three main regions of Jammu and Kashmir . Residents in the region feel the report could be "one sided and against the interests of Jammu ".The Jammu people are noursihing such apprehensions on the basis of the statements that have been emanating from different quarters including interlocutors , which people feel have focus on Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention that on political lines Jammu 's main demand is for an increase in the number of legislative assembly seats. The region has 37 seats in the house of 87, the valley has 46, while Ladakh has four seats. There is also a demand for fair representation of people from Jammu region in state government services and professional institutions. In Kashmir Valley too the common people do not expect much from the report and therefore exhibit no excitement nor curiosity in what the report has in its fold. As for separatist camp, the leaders who matter have already been showing indifference towards this exercise despite the fact interloctors made constant efforts in taking them on board. During the one year term interlocutors met with Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minster Omar Abdullah, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and other politicians, social organizations, journalists and students. Radha Kumar also met former Prime Minster of Pakistan-administered-Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood when the latter had come to Srinagar to attend marriage ceremony of his businessman friend in Kashmir. |
