Tariff revision of above 3% unwarranted: PHDCCI | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 12: PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, J&K State Committee feels that tariff revision of above 3% for commercial & industrial consumers is totally un-warranted in the light of continued failure of PDD to reduce transmission & distribution losses, continued power theft and failure of PDD to supply quality power. The revised tariff will hit single shift industry, particularly hard due to hike in demand charges. The continuous inability of PDD to recover its dues from government departments is a cause of great worry. The hike by 25% is going to exert further pressure on the already tottering Industrial Sector in the State. PRO Chamber strongly urges the State Electricity Regulatory Commission to roll back the tariff hike till such time T&D losses are reduced by PDD. In fact, no tariff revision should be permitted till directives issued by SERC in the last 3 years are actually complied with, the hike of 25% seen in the background of 62% T&D losses amounts to nothing but punishing the honest and rewarding the dis-honest. Instead of creating a level playing field, the further hike will make it difficult for honest consumers to survive and on the contrary will make it more rewarding for dishonest consumers to steal more power.
